Birthdays and Weddings!
~My son's first birthday was last week! His party was "construction" themed. I made him a 3 tier chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and german chocolate coconut pecan filling. I also made some billy's vanilla cupcakes. The chocolate cake recipe I used was the last one that I posted for chocolate cupcakes. The butter cream was really good and held up to the heat. The recipe is:
chocolate buttercream:
2 sticks butter (softened)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4-1/2 cup milk depending on your desired consistency
6-7 cups powdered sugar
1/2-3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder depending on how rich or dark in color you desire
directions:
beat butter for about 3 minutes and it is smooth and cream. Add vanilla extract. Slowly add powdered sugar and cocoa powder. The mixture will be very thick. Add milk, start with 1/4 cup and add more if you want it to be more spreadable.
~Then it was my brothers birthday two days later soooo I made VANILLA cupcakes AGAIN! I seriously love that Billy's vanilla recipe. And so does my brother. But I forgot that his favorite was the coconut haupia cupcakes, next time.
~I am baking for a wedding this month and their theme is "sunflowers" so I made some sample cupcakes for the bride to see and try and she loved them.

Brisha, I cannot tell you enough, how BEAUTIFUL your desserts look. Especially the ones for your brother's birthday. I love them! Have you seen the new show DC cupcakes? It's two sisters who run a cupcake/cake shop, and their creations are sooo cute too! You could totally run your own shop:-)
um..yeah...you are totally awsome!
Haha thanks you guys!! Darah- I haven't seen that show, yet. But my aunt was telling me about it too! I gotta watch it!!
My son's first Party is next month and it's also construction theme. I looked at hundreds of cakes and then seen your cupcake set up and loved it! Do you have any idea how that stand was made? It goes perfect with the theme!

@logansmommy10- I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you but thank you so much for commenting on my blog! i hope you get this in time, i don't know how else to reply to your comment... so my husband actually made the stand for me really easily, at home depot or i'm sure lowes would have it too, there are the circles for each tier already cut, they are used for easy to make tables. i think the dimensions were 8 inch, 10 inch and 12 inch, and in between each tier we used a 4x4 peice of wood i think around 3 or 4 inches high and we just wrapped that 4x4 with caution tape. i hope this helps you!! as for the cupcake toppers i bought those at birthdayexpress.com i think, i also found a lot of stuff at orientaltrading.com i think that is where the gummy tool candies that top the mini cupcakes came from. have a great party!!
